چکیده

The Mesopotamian spiny eel, Mastacembelus mastacembelus, an endemic freshwater fish restricted to the Euphrates and Tigris river drainages of Mesopotamian, its related taxa in Afrotropica South Asia present suitable elements for studies evolutionary history mastacembelids across these heterogeneous areas. To understand clarify geographic variation eel from Persian Gulf basin, we investigated molecular morphological characteristics individuals collected whole distribution range (Karkheh, Karoon Zab), Zohreh Persis (Mond Helleh) main Iran. analysis revealed a separation studied populations; however, genetic distances were relatively small tree did not distinct branching pattern based on COI mitochondrial marker. Six haplotypes identified: Helleh, Mond, Karkheh, Karoon, Zab tributaries each showed separate haplotype. marker indicates that has greater affinity with African species than Southeast Asian species. Estimation divergence times apparently diverged about 1 million years ago (Mya) (95% highest posterior density [HPD]: 390,000 2.1 Mya) different basin.

The parasite fauna of 50 specimens of spiny eel obtained from two lakes, Zarivar (in Kurdistan province) and Parishan (in Fars province) and one river, Heleh (Booshehr province) were examined during the year 2003. A total of nine parasite species were found. Gills of spiny eel were infected with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis , Trichodina pediculus (protozoa) and Mastacembelocleidus heteranchorus...

Morphological, Molecular and Phytochemical Variation in Some Thyme Genotypes

Thyme is an important medicinal plant in cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries. The first step for breeding of thyme is evaluating of genetic variation and relationship between thyme’s accessions. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate morphology, chemical and molecular variation of 13 accessions of Thyme medicinal plant. ANOVA showed significant differences between acces...

Molecular resolution of the systematics of a problematic group of fishes (Teleostei: Osmeridae) and evidence for morphological homoplasy.

Relationships among the species of Northern Hemisphere smelts (family Osmeridae) have long been debated in the fish systematics literature. Eight independent studies based on morphological characters failed to reach any consensus on osmerid interrelationships. We reconstruct the osmerid phylogeny based on DNA sequence data from three mitochondrial (cytb, 16S, 12S) and three nuclear (ITS2, S71, ...

Research Article: The effect of cryopreservative extender developed for Mesopotamian spiny eel (Mastacembelus mastacembelus Banks & Solander, 1794) on sperm motility and fertilization rate after thawing

This study was aimed to determine the effect of a freezing extender developed for Mesopotamian spiny eel (Mastacembelus mastacembelus Banks & Solander, 1794). Mesopotamian spiny eel was caught from May to July 2017 in the Atatürk Dam Lake and Euphrates Basin (meridians) in Şanliurfa, Turkey. During the study, the animals (n=10; 8 males, 2 females) were caught with gill nets (22 mm×22 mm, mesh s...
